The Home Run

The Home Run marked Verso’s first footings into radio — a two-hour music show broadcast between 4pm and 6pm, originally on a Thursday before moving to a Tuesday. It was a vibrant, energetic end-of-day listen, blending themed playlists with thoughtful commentary and music-driven storytelling.

From classic anthems to overlooked gems, The Home Run laid the groundwork for everything that followed. The concept was simple: music and guests with intention — and a presenter finding their voice in real time.

In its first year, The Home Run was all about finding its rhythm. A new presenter learning the ropes, testing formats, and building confidence live on air. Local guests played a vital role early on, bringing warmth, humour, and authenticity that helped shape the show’s identity. It was a raw but honest start — the foundation for everything that followed.

By the second year, confidence had grown — and so had the quality. Shows became sharper, themes more refined, and a steady stream of local guests brought fresh perspectives. Remarkably, two of those guests went on to become presenters themselves — a testament to the show’s welcoming spirit and grassroots energy.
