Tommy’s Troubles

The tale revolves around teenager Tommy Barnes, who dreams of becoming a professional football player but is forced to attend Crowhurst School, where only rugby is played. Tommy and his friend Ginger Collins work together to convince the headmaster to allow a school football team, but only if Tommy can join the rugby team first. Eventually, Tommy achieves this goal. Tommy and Ginger then create their own football club, Barnes United, and join a local league. They secure permission from the local council to use abandoned tennis courts, where they build their own pitch and clubhouse. The team faces numerous challenges, including struggling to find enough players and having to hitchhike to away games due to financial constraints. They also clash with two of Crowhurst’s top rugby players, Adam Waller and Cyril Swate, who constantly try to sabotage their efforts. Despite their challenges, Waller always faces consequences for his actions.
