Score ‘n’ Roar, later known simply as Score, was a football weekly publication by IPC that ran from 1970 to 1971, featuring a mix of comic strips and magazine features. In a similar style to Whizzer and Chips and Shiver and Shake, it followed a dual-comic format where Roar was included as a pull-out section within Score. This approach was eventually discontinued, leading to the name change. Despite all content being football-themed, the comic strips varied in genre from fantasy, such as “Phantom of the Forest” which centered around a ghostly footballer, to more light-hearted humour like “Trouble Shooter” starring the clumsy and comical Bertie Bentboot. After 41 issues, Score was absorbed into Scorcher. However, one particular strip, “Nipper”, continued on and eventually found a new home in Tiger.
This issue featured the following stories:
Jack of United
Cannonball Craig
Jimmy of City
Peter the Cat
Mark Your Man
Phantom of the Forest
The Mudlarks
Nipper
Lord Rumsey’s Rovers
Issue Dated: 19th September 1970
