Safest Hands in Soccer

Gordon Stewart, known for his exceptional goalkeeping skills, was the star of The Safest Hands in Soccer (1977–82) while playing for Tynefield City in the second division. Despite his talent and numerous Scotland caps, Gordon never signed with a top club, opting to stay with City instead. The comic strip was unique for its focus on a goalkeeper, highlighting the importance of match-winning saves instead of the usual focus on scoring goals.

In 1983, Gordon made a very brief appearance in Goalkeeper, with the story now following his son Rick as he joined rival team Tynefield United. Rick’s adventures continued in the comic until 1990.
